Start a project

Three questions, a kit and about a minute: what each step asks, and what you can change later.

Where to start

Choose New project on Today or on a space's page. The project belongs to that space: your personal space for your own work and anything you invite guests to, or a team space for a group or a company.

The steps

  1. What: a name for the project, its goal if you know it, and who it's for: a course, a client or your team. Only the name is needed.
  2. By when: a deadline, or no deadline for open-ended work. The plan is dated back from the deadline, and the deadline is its last checkpoint.
  3. Kit: the kit that fits your answers is marked. A kit sets up the parts, tasks and steps for that kind of work.
  4. Files: paste the brief, and add a deck, a spreadsheet or a reading list. You can skip this.
  5. Plan: your draft plan of parts, tasks and steps. Rename, reorder or remove them, add your own, and look over the checkpoints and the Not doing list.
  6. Divide: put a name on each task, or decide later. A part can have an owner too. Then choose Create project.

The kits

Essay or report, Group report, Thesis or degree project, Startup: idea to first customers, Launch and Client project. Each comes with its parts, tasks and steps, and some with tracks, checkpoints and a sample Not doing list. Blank, guided starts with no parts, and the Overview helps you add the first ones.

How you work, and who sees it

Under More options in the last step, choose how you work: Together, where everyone in the project shapes the plan, or Lead-run, where only you do. In a team space you also choose who can see the project: only its members, which is recommended, or everyone in the space.

Changing it later

Nothing in the draft is final. Whoever shapes the plan can change parts, tasks, steps and dates on the Plan page, and add parts from a brief. The project's Lead changes how you work and who can see it in Settings.
