Terms of use

What you can expect from us, and we from you

The agreement between you and us when you use Belaywork, in plain words. It's a free beta: it may change, so keep your own copies of what matters.

Last updated 30 October 2026

1Who we are

Belaywork (“we”, “us”) is provided by AterAvis HB (org. no. 969803-9691), Sweden. You can reach us at hello@belaywork.com.

These terms apply when you use Belaywork: the website, the app and the emails it sends.

You accept them by ticking “I'm 13 or older and agree to the Terms” when you create your account, including when you create it from an invitation. We keep a note of which version you accepted, and when.

2The service

Belaywork is the home for projects with a finish line: a place for a project's goal, plan, parts, tasks, library and people. It organises work that is done elsewhere; writing, chat and meetings stay in the tools you already use.

Belaywork is a free beta. It's still being built, so features may change, move or go away, and things may sometimes not work as they should.

We may change, add or remove features. If a change takes away something you rely on, we tell you at least 30 days before, by email and in Belaywork, unless a security problem or the law makes us act sooner.

3Your account

  • You need to be 13 or older to create an account. If you're under 18, make sure a parent or guardian is fine with you using Belaywork.
  • You sign in with a link sent to your email address. Keep that inbox to yourself: anyone who can read it can sign in as you. If you think someone else has got in, sign out your other devices in Account and write to us.
  • Use your real name or the name you're known by in your projects. Everything beyond your name and email is optional.
  • You can delete your account at any time from Account. What happens to your data then is described in the privacy notice.

4Spaces, projects and roles

  • Everyone has a personal space. A team space holds a group, a class or a company.
  • A space's Owners and Admins manage who belongs to it. A project's Lead manages the project's settings. The roles, and what each may do, are shown in Belaywork.
  • If you invite people, invite only people who should see the project. Everyone you invite sees what their role allows, including what others have added.
  • If you create a space for a group, a class or a company, you confirm that you're allowed to do that on its behalf.
  • Business use is welcome on these terms during the beta.

5Your content

  • What you add stays yours. Files, notes, sources, comments and everything else you or the people you work with add to a project belong to you or to them, not to us.
  • You give us the permission we need to store your content, show it to the people your project's settings allow, scan files for malware, show previews in your browser, make smaller copies of pictures, back it up and delete it. Only to run Belaywork for you, and for nothing else.
  • No AI. We don't send your content to an AI service, and we don't use it to train one. No other service reads your content.
  • You're responsible for having the right to upload what you upload, and for what you write.
  • Please don't add health information or other sensitive personal data, such as ethnic origin, political opinions, religious beliefs, trade union membership, sex life or sexual orientation, or genetic or biometric data, whether it's about you or about anyone else. Belaywork isn't made for that kind of information.
  • When a project is archived, it's kept read-only until the space's retention period ends (12 months unless the space's settings say otherwise), then deleted, after an email warning two weeks before. Deleted content leaves our backups within 45 days.

6Acceptable use

Don't use Belaywork to:

  • break the law, or infringe anyone's rights (copyright, privacy, trade secrets);
  • upload malware, or try to get around the malware checks;
  • harass, threaten or discriminate against anyone;
  • try to reach projects, spaces or data you haven't been invited to, test our security without telling us first (the security page says how to report a problem), or put an unreasonable load on the service;
  • get around plan limits, for example by creating spaces to multiply free allowances;
  • resell or rebrand the service without our written agreement.

If content or an account breaks these rules or the law, we may remove the content or suspend the account. Where we can, we tell you first, say why and give you a chance to fix it. If the harm couldn't wait, we tell you afterwards and say why. If you think we got it wrong, reply to hello@belaywork.com and a person will look at it again.

Seen something illegal in Belaywork? Report it to hello@belaywork.com with: where it is (the exact link, if you have one), why you think it's illegal, your name and email address, and a line confirming that you believe your report is accurate and complete. We confirm that we've received it, look at every report, act on what is illegal, and tell you what we decided and how to ask us to look again.

7Plans, limits and payment

  • Belaywork is free during the beta, with the limits on the pricing page: 8 people, 10 active projects and 2 GB of files per space, and files up to 100 MB. Besides your personal space, you can own one free team space.
  • Limits never delete anything. When a space is full, archive or remove something to make room.
  • Team and Business aren't available yet, and nothing is charged. Before anyone is asked to pay, we'll add the price, billing, renewal, cancellation and refund terms here and tell you at least 30 days in advance.

8Availability

We work to keep Belaywork running and your data safe, but as a free beta it comes with no promise that it will always be available or free of faults. We sometimes need to take it down for maintenance, and try to do that at quiet times.

Keep your own copies of anything you can't afford to lose. Anyone in a project can export it from the project's settings, and you can download your own data from Account at any time.

9Privacy

How we handle personal data is described in the privacy notice. It explains how we provide the service, but it isn't a contract term you agree to: your rights under the GDPR don't depend on these terms.

10Ending

  • You can stop using Belaywork and delete your account at any time.
  • We may end your access if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms. Unless the harm can't wait, we tell you first and say why, and you can reply to hello@belaywork.com to ask us to look again. Where we can, we give you time to download your data first.
  • If we ever close Belaywork, we'll tell you by email and in Belaywork at least 30 days in advance, so you have time to export your work.

11Liability

Belaywork is a free beta, and we provide it as it is. We do what we reasonably can to keep it working and your data safe, but we can't promise it's free of faults.

To the extent the law allows, we're not liable for indirect loss, such as lost profit or income, or for loss caused by events outside our reasonable control.

Nothing in these terms limits our liability where the law doesn't allow it to be limited, including for harm we cause on purpose or through gross negligence. And nothing in them limits the rights you have as a consumer under the law.

12Changes to these terms

If we change these terms in a way that matters, we tell you by email and in Belaywork at least 30 days before the change applies. If you don't accept it, you can delete your account before then. Smaller changes, such as clearer wording, apply when we publish them, with a new date at the top of this page.

13Law and disputes

Swedish law applies to these terms. If you're a consumer, you also keep the protection that the law of the country you live in gives you and that an agreement can't take away.

If something goes wrong, write to us first and we'll try to sort it out. If we can't agree and you're a consumer, you can take the dispute to Allmänna reklamationsnämnden (ARN), the Swedish National Board for Consumer Disputes, at arn.se.

Otherwise, disputes are settled by the Swedish courts, unless the law gives you as a consumer the right to go to the courts where you live.

14Contact

Questions about these terms, and reports of illegal content, go to hello@belaywork.com. It's also our point of contact under the EU's Digital Services Act, for you and for authorities. Write to us in English or Swedish.
